Knit a cute hat or two for your favorite future roller derby player. These baby hats were inspired by the caps real life roller derby girls wear over their helmets during bouts and scrimmages to designate which players are the jammers and the pivots. Jammers score points and pivots lead the pack.

Instead of making the pivot (stripe) or jammer (star) patterns using colorwork, you knit solid color hats, then knit the embellishments separately and sew them on at the end.

If you are making a set of 2 hats, a jammer hat and a pivot hat, the pattern is designed to make both hats using only 2 balls of yarn.

Shine Sport was used to create these patterns because it is machine washable, super soft, and comes in a wide variety of “team” colors.
