These socks were designed for a gentleman who asked for a 2×2 rib sock – and since I love 2×2 rib myself, I was more than happy to oblige!

They’re great for both men and women, with little details that make them extra special. I played around with how the 2×2 rib flows into the stocking stitch at the shaped instep, trying several ideas before settling on the version you’ll find in the pattern.

It still makes me smile every time I see it. If you look closely at the photo you might spot the detail – or, even better, you can enjoy discovering it as you knit. I love that little moment when a pattern reveals something unexpected, making the knitting journey just as enjoyable as the finished socks.

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.

YARN
One 100g ball of WYS Signature 4 ply.
75% Wool (contains 35% British BlueFaced Leicester) & 25% Nylon, 400m/437yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
2.5mm set of four double pointed needles.

GAUGE (tension)
28 stitches and 38 rows to 10cm square over rib when slightly stretched. I obtained this gauge with 2.5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit UK size 5 or desired foot length as highlighted in the pattern.
