Released in August 2011, Rosa Acicularis was retired from individual sale in August 2021.

The roses of my prairie childhood were wild, rambling things. I remember my father propping up their sprawling branches on stakes so that he could cut the grass beneath them; sometimes I would hide under their fragrant prickly canopy and breath in the perfume of rose and honey and hot dry earth. When August came, the roses would be covered in netting to keep the birds from stealing the rosehips before they ripened so that they could be picked for rosehip jam.

This is my homage to those memories; wide expanses of stockinette flat as a prairie vista, orderly rows of stakes and netting, and roses blooming between them.

Materials Needed:
400 to 475 yards fingering weight yarn for small shawl
600 to 700 yards fingering weight yarn for large shawl
4mm / size 6 US circular or straight needle(s)
Optional:
4 stitch markers to mark off edge and middle stitches

Pattern directions are fully written; charts are included for all parts of the pattern except the garter tab set up rows, which are written only.

A note on gauge:
I do not consider gauge to be important for lace knitting. I like the fabric I get on 4mm needles for fingering weight shawls; you may prefer a looser or denser fabric. If you prefer a much larger needle, keep in mind that you will also need more yardage

Pattern updated April 2018 to include an additional (optional) deeper edging chart.
