Rose Dance Shawl
For the design of this shawl, I decided that I wanted to combine two designs by Herbert Niebling to form a semi-circular shawl. The first was from a set of reprints, Kunststricken: Decken, Garnityren, Spitzen originally published by Otto Beyer Publishing House. The pattern in question was from booklet 760 (Herzmuster) and is Fig. 20 on page 12, with the chart appearing as Fig. 7 on the chart sheet. The second pattern was Johannisrose and here is where I ran into problems. While a photograph (page 10) was included in the set of reprints Spitzenstrickerei 1: Historische Muster, it turned out that the pattern chart was not included. Since I did not want to give up on my idea of combining the two patterns, I have done my best to recreate the rose motif from the photograph. Since it did not have sufficient detail to see such things as the placement of decreases, it is hard to tell how accurate the recreation is. I hope Mr. Niebling would not be appalled by my version.
The yarn I used was a hand spun yarn spun from a blend on bombyx silk and yak (50%/50%).
Warning - the pattern has not been test knitted by anyone other than myself so there may be errors. Please let me know if you find any and I will post a corrected version. Please make sure you have the most recent version. Thanks.
