Make your own Smilodon (aka Sabertooth cat)! The Smilodon was a top predator in the Americas during the Pleisotcene, using its massive bulk to take down prey and its razor sharp teeth to deliver a killing blow. The sabertooth cat is particularly well-known from fossils found in La Brea tar pits in Southern California.

The 40 page pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos and clear written instructions to make an amigurumi-style Smilodon. PLUS there is a 17 page printer-friendly TEXT ONLY version at the end of the pattern. This pattern has been fully tested by multiple testers. Includes yarn amounts and hook sizes to make a Sabertooth Cat using worsted weight yarn.

Recommended for INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL. This pattern uses basic crochet stitches and more complex stitches (detailed in the pattern glossary).

A finished Smilodon made using Worsted Weight yarn is approximately 12” long from nose to rump, 8.75” tall from bottom of foot to tip of ear, and 4.5” wide from shoulder to shoulder.

To make a Smilodon using Worsted weight yarn you will need:
Main color yarn: 300 yds
Accent color yarn: 70 yds
Nose color yarn: 5 yds
Fang color yarn: 8 yds of Sport or DK weight yarn
G (4/4.25mm) crochet hook (or preferred amigurumi hook)
F (3.75mm) crochet hook, or one size smaller than main hook
One pair of 16mm or 18mm plastic safety eyes
Poly-fil or other stuffing
4 to 5 18-inch pieces of 18-gauge, paper-wrapped floral wire
Darning needle
Stitch markers
