Sable Scarf
Sable Scarf|Updated Pattern
The Sable Scarf is inspired by the French name of its featured stitch pattern: point de sable. Its delicate, rhythmic texture recalls the traces left by the wind across the surface of the sand.
The scarf is worked flat from one end to the other. The first half is shaped with regular increases; once the desired width is reached, the second half is worked with matching decreases. Its simple construction and soothing repetition make it a joyful little project—and a lovely way to use a special skein from your stash.
The pattern has been fully updated with:
• Five samples knitted in different yarns and sizes
• More detailed guidance for adjusting the dimensions and yarn usage
• Clearer increase, decrease and finishing instructions
• Row-tracking boxes throughout the pattern
• Expanded written instructions and a video tutorial for the Distitch Edge
Yarn options
A wide range of yarn weights can be used:
• One strand of fingering-, sport- or DK-weight yarn
• Two strands of heavy lace-weight yarn held together
The samples were knitted with 3.5mm (US4) or 4mm (US6) needles and used approximately 25–48g of yarn. Depending on your chosen yarn and finished size, allow approximately 108–216m.
Gauge is not critical for this project. Different yarns will create slightly different textures, drape and finished dimensions. The width and length can easily be adjusted according to your preferences and the amount of yarn available.
Sample measurements
• Sample 1: approximately 150cm×18cm
• Sample 2: approximately 124cm×15.5cm

• Sample 4: approximately 106cm×13cm
• Sample 5: approximately 91.5cm×10cm
Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5, easy)
Techniques used:
• Casting on and binding off
• Knitting and purling

• Knit and purl decreases
• Twisted stitches
• Distitch Edge
This pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners. The Distitch Edge may be the only unfamiliar technique, and both written instructions and a video tutorial are included.
• Sample 1 : environ 150cm×18cm, 44sts
• Sample 2 : environ 124cm×15,5cm, 34sts
• Sample 3 : environ 103cm×12cm, 34sts
• Sample 4 : environ 106cm×13cm, 30sts
• Sample 5 : environ 91,5cm×10cm, 28sts
Niveau de difficulté : ★★☆☆☆ (2/5, facile)
Techniques utilisées :
• Montage et rabattage des mailles
• Mailles endroit et envers
• Jetés
• Diminutions à l’endroit et à l’envers
• Mailles torses
• Bordure Distitch
