(and the fact that I have to say this is the pattern only on a pattern website now is terrible)

Sable’s Creature’s/Monster’s Hood leans toward being an INTERMEDIATE (or ADVENTUROUS BEGINNER!) pattern because of several techniques being used, and a lot of parts with assembly, as well as a good bot of (optional) detail work. Fret not, there are step-by-step pictures throughout and a bunch of extra pictures at the end of finished hoods.

You will need 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together – 1 in gray and 1 in black. The hat pictured throughout this pattern used lighter yarn than you should use but I wanted good visibility in the pictures. You should use a gray heather or even a charcoal gray. This is a really thick, warm hood. If you can find a bulky/blanket weight black heather yarn, you can use it but I don’t care for blanket yarn so I can’t help you with yardage or any other blanket yarn-related inquiries.

The hoods in-game appear to be knit texture, but we are crocheting it because I am ungovernable (I might make a knit version later if there’s interest though!).

Feel free to further customize the hoods, use different colors, tweak the pattern, whatever you need. Don’t hesitate to share your creations online, but please link back to the pattern of course.

Materials and Supplies
• Worsted weight yarn in black and gray (again, darker gray than the Monster’s Hood pictured – I used a light gray for visibility in the pattern and you can see a Creature’s Hood with darker gray at the end, and honestly I think it would look better even darker), red for the secondary color of the Monster’s Hood and purple for the Creature’s Hood. You’ll want a little purple for the Monster’s Hood and a little fuchsia/magenta for the Creature’s Hood. Maybe even a little pale blue/periwinkle for both. Scraps should work for this. Finally, you’ll need white for the spikes.
◦ YARDAGE (approximate!): 300 yards of black and gray, 200 yards of your secondary color (purple or red, depending on the hood), less than 100 yards of white. I recommend having 2 skeins/balls when holding 2 strands together, rather than working from both ends of 1, but this is up to you.
• 8 white 1” buttons
• Size J crochet hook and size G crochet hook
• Yarn needle – you’ll want a pretty large eye
• Regular needle – for attaching the buttons
• Stitch marker – for the continuous rounds of the spikes
• Pins (optional, but recommended for positioning the parts before attaching – I use bobby pins)
• a small amount of stuffing material for the ends of the tassels and spines
• embroidery floss in red (Monster’s Hood) or black (Creature’s Hood) - the color matches the front trim

Whip stitch/running stitch can be used to join the pieces. You can use whichever you prefer that you think looks best for each part.

Gauge: approx. 5 hdc/2 in and 3 hdc row/2 inch

Finished hood measures about 10” across from the bottom front corner to the back when laying flat, about 11” from the corner to the top with 2.5” spines. The tassels are about 12”.
