Salt City Cardi is a totally customizable cardigan! The gorgeous lace panels are easy to shape seamlessly into any size. This unique pattern lets the knitter customize the size as it is worked so the garment is sure to fit like a glove! Standard directions are also given, from size Petite XS to Tall XL and every permutation in between!

The back panel is worked with a drop-stitch Lace Staghorn cable. The shawl collar is then picked up along the edges of the Staghorn Lace, leaving room for sleeves, and worked in a Blackberry Lace pattern. Sleeves are picked up last, and worked in a Chevron Lace pattern to the end ribbing. This is a truly original cardigan.

The techniques used are: Cabling, Drop Stitches, Provisional Cast On, Magic Loop Method (If used for sleeves; Double point needles may be used alternately) and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off. Please familiarize yourself with these techniques before starting this pattern.

There have been a few people who wanted a tutorial on the drop stitch (Staghorn lace) section. I have a video of this section at:

Standard sizes included are:
Length Sizes: Petite measures 15” tall, Regular measures 16” tall, Tall measures 17” tall from nape of neck to bottom of cardigan.

Width Sizes: Extra Small (XS) measures 12” between sleeves
Small (S) measures 13” between sleeves
Medium (M) measures 14” between sleeves
Large (L) measures 15” between sleeves
Extra Large (XL) measures 16” between sleeves

A word on yarn: This pattern must be knit with yarn containing a good percentage of animal fiber. Knit it with anything else, and it will not block properly-- or at all.

Here’s a better indication of yardage: 700 yards (XS), 900 yards (S), 1050 yards (M), 1150 (L), 1400 (XL) DK weight yarn. This is for the Tall length for each width. This is an estimation only!!

There are now 3 versions of the PDF to download:

The “Full” pattern has all instructions for the indicated sizes and with the notes for making custom sizes.

The “Simple” pattern is simplified and printer friendly; it only prints out the indicated sizes with no customization instructions.

The “Simple Metric” pattern is essentially the same as the “Simple”, but measurements are given in metric. No customization instructions given in this version.
