The Sand Catcher Granny Square Top is a light summer crop top perfect for a beach day, with a flattering V-neck and an open back that is perfect for sun bathing.
It’s made of large granny squares and triangles, with straps that tie around the neck for good support, and straps that tie at the back in a cross pattern, making it easy to adjust to your body and to slip in and out of.
This top is a perfect opportunity for color work, allowing you the freedom to make the granny squares different colors, or use a different color in each row of the granny squares.

This pattern includes written instructions and charts for the granny squares and triangles, and for every row there are written instructions, a picture, and a chart.

The top measures 22” (56 cm) wide, 11 ¾” (30 cm) tall, and fits sizes S, M, and L. Each side of the granny squares measures 5 ⅛” (13 cm). For reference, the measurements of the body on the picture are: 33 ½” (85 cm) bust, 27 ½” (70 cm) waist.

Though this pattern gives instructions on how to make the top in these measurements, here are a couple ways to modify it to fit your measurements:

  • Using a different yarn weight and/or different hook size: to make the top smaller, you can use thinner yarn and/or a smaller hook size, and to make the top bigger, you can use a thicker yarn and/or a bigger hook size. I recommend crocheting a gauge swatch to make sure the top will be the size you need it to be.

  • Adding or removing granny squares: the construction of this top makes it easy to customize, arranging the granny squares however you want. You can add or remove a row of granny squares to make the top longer or shorter, or change the granny “quarters” (C) at the edges to granny “halves” (B) to make it bigger.

  • Making longer straps

The materials needed for making this top are:

  • About 80 grams / 480 yards of lace weight yarn
  • 2mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
