Santa's Herding Kittens
For years now, my Christmas pattern has been a fun tradition. This year has been a hard one with the loss of our beloved cat Solveig, so cats have been on my mind a lot. When it got to the time of designing these socks, I needed easy comfort knitting with short floats, so I turned to my Kitty Cuff design. Why not stick a fun hat on those cats and make them festive? The foot has added ribbing for a snug fit and easy, but engaging knitting that can be done during this busy season and while in company.
Sizes:
Sizes 1 (2, 3) with a stitch count of 60 (72, 84). The foot circumference at the suggested gauge is 16.5cm (20cm, 23cm). Length can easily adjusted in the ribbing part.
Materials:
approx. 70g of MC yarn (green)
approx. 10g of CC1 yarn (white)
approx. 10g of CC2 yarn (red)
2mm DPNs or needles for magic loop or size required to get gauge
tapestry needle
The pattern is written for knitting on a set of five DPNs, but can easily be adjusted to your favourite style of knitting socks
Any regular fingering weight sock yarn in solid or semisolid colours will work well. Using variegated or even speckled yarns might also lead to interesting results, but keep the contrast to the between the colours used next to each other high enough.
Charted colourwork with additional written instructions for the construction.
