Sardinella Socks
Inspired by a recent trip to Portugal, this seaworthy design using Starling Fingering Weight Yarn by Quince and Co. features stranded colorwork that brings sweet and salty sardines and gentle waves over toes. With clear, approachable charts, Sardinella is a happy knit for sock makers of all levels—whether you’re new to colorwork or a seasoned pro.
TECHNIQUES
These socks are knit cuff-down with two colorwork charts and a heel flap and gusset. While not required, incorporating the ladderback jacquard method is helpful for catching longer floats and maintaining stretchiness. The toe is closed using 3-needle bind off.
SIZING
The sock pattern is written for 3 sizes: S (M, L). The socks are designed to fit approximate foot circumference 8” (9”, 10”) or approximately 20 (23, 25 ½) cm. This can vary based on gauge, needle size, and sock fit preference. Please ensure that your chosen size matches with your knitting style materials, and preferred fit. The sample is shown in size S width and a women’s size 7 foot length.
GAUGE
In blocked stockinette stitch, 4” x 4” = 32 sts x 36 rounds
