Description: The Sawtooth Jacket is a mosaic knit cardigan inspired by heritage quilt motifs. With an intended 8”-12” / 20.3-30.5 cm of positive ease and a boxy, swingy silhouette, the jacket functions best as a substantial outer layer, suitable for chilly spring mornings and autumn evenings. The pattern works well as an introduction to mosaic knitting for intermediate knitters–knitting the jacket one small motif at a time is very forgiving for those approaching mosaic knitting for the first time. With a wide array of color combinations and possibilities, the jacket is visually striking as a multicolored stash-buster, or with a pared-down, two-color palette.

Method/Assembly: The sweater body and sleeves are worked from the bottom up in vertical sections. Each section is knitted seamlessly for the full length of the sweater/sleeve. The sections are assembled via seaming to form a back piece, two front pieces, and two sleeves. The pieces are then seamed together using mattress stitch. The jacket is finished with an i-cord edge, toggles, and i-cord button loops.

Yarn: The sample is knitted in Höner och Eir Nutiden (held double), an unspun yarn. Unspun or light twist worsted/aran weight yarns are recommended, such as Istex Plötulopi or Istex Léttlopi. Blown yarns, such as Drops Air, are another excellent option.

Nutiden colorways used in sample: Harden (pumpkin orange), Gubbens (oxblood), Värna (dark pink), Diftong (berry purple), Tricket (black cherry red), Krikon (plum purple-black), Pudrad (powder pink-beige), Languster (neutral beige), and Jera (light pink).
