Scrap Yarn Diamond Blanket
This is a free video tutorial only — no written pattern is available.
I crocheted this blanket using (mostly) category 4, worsted weight yarn and a size H (5 mm) hook. I had a lot of Caron Simply Soft leftover yarns in my stash, but I used other yarns as well. For instance, I had a ball of fine yarn, so I crocheted it in three strands to make it thicker.
You can use any yarn weight together with a corresponding hook size.
The blanket is built from diamond elements as the main design, along with three different types of triangles to shape the edges and corners.
I made mine in a full bedspread size, but the blanket can be made in any size — from a baby blanket, to a throw, to a bedspread. Once the elements are completed, they are stitched together with a tapestry needle, and the blanket is finished with a simple crochet border.
Because the design is element-based, it works beautifully with a mix of leftover yarns, scrap yarns, or second time around yarns. It can be made in a multitude of colors for a vibrant look, or with just a few shades for a more coordinated finish.
