“Sea rocks” and “Desert rocks” are 2 cardigans which look quite similar, but are worked in a different way:

  • “Sea rocks” is worked top-down in Raglan style in one piece, with minimal finishing.
  • “Desert rocks” is worked the classic way, bottom-up in pieces featuring a bell sleeve (which I personally think is worth the effort because it fits so well).

Both versions are decribed in the pattern, so you can choose.
They share the basic stitch pattern (I call it the “Blister stitch”) which is effective, but quite easy, with knitting into stitches below.

(By the way, my Loop 66 pattern from 2017 uses the same stitch - and you will get it for free when purchasing the cardigan with coupon code “k3_below” - does not work in combination with a discount.)

The cardigan comes along in 5 sizes: S/ M/ L/ XL/ XXL
with 90/ 98/ 106/ 116/ 125 cm circumference at bust.

Yarn usage

  • Main color (MC): Approx. 1000/ 1120/ 1240/ 1360/ 1500m of a Sport to DK weight yarn in a neutral color. (If you use 2 yarns held together, you will need this amount for both yarns.)
  • Contrast colors (CC): Approx. 600 / 670/ 740/ 820/ 900m of a Fingering weight yarn.

Blister stitch works best if yor CC yarn is a bit thinner than your main yarn.

For both my samples, I have used Ruppert Garne Soft Donegal:

  • For the CC, I have used it alone (Fingering weight, 190m/ 50g, 100% wool).
  • For the MC, I have combined it with Ruppert Garne Noble (500m/ 50g, 95% Geelong wool, 5% Cashmere) in a similar color (both yarns held together = DK weight).

(So I have used 7 skeins of Soft Donegal in MC, 4 in CC and 2 skeins of Noble.)
