Sea Fever
Proud to be the April main square in the 2026 Block-a-month Crochet-along - join in the fun here
This afghan block comes in two sizes - a smaller single-coloured version and a larger multi-coloured square. Both are heavily textured and interesting to crochet as every round is different. There is a separate file for each version and each set of instructions allows for a smooth transition between rounds, for the neatest possible result. There are clear photographic illustrations for every round.
The colours of the larger square reflect the the shoreline on a hot summer’s day, and the stitch patterns hint at lapping surf, shells, ropes, driftwood… we can dream!
Two different sofa throws and a tote bag are shown as examples of what you could make with these squares. For the bag I used the ideas outlined in the Jackfield Tile pattern, available here.
Please note: this pattern is for the individual blocks only - making-up instructions are not included and sizes may need to be adjusted if mixing them in a project, so that they fit together.
Both designs have been thoroughly tested and approved by Shadow and Tinker!
(Heartfelt thanks as always to my real testers: Ellen, Mia-Liv and Margie.)
Materials used:
for the multi-coloured square - Stylecraft Special DK in camel, warm grey, mocha, walnut, duck egg and cream.
for the single-coloured square (rainbow blanket) - Sirdar Happy Colours cotton DK.
