The Jackfield Tile Tote Bag
This colourful bag is based on The Jackfield Tile Square (pattern available separately - free download here) but can of course be made with any suitable square. A simple cover is constructed from three pieces, then permanently stitched to an inexpensive, ready-made canvas base - a fuss-free way of adding strength, stability, shape and handles all in one go.
Instructions are given for DK or Aran/worsted weight yarn using the appropriate hook. Most importantly, the notes also allow for adjustment to fit any gauge, and any size and depth of inner bag, as long as the front panels are square.
The pattern is 6 pages long, with plenty of photos and helpful hints. Now also available translated into Spanish (7 pages) - my very grateful thanks to Julia Veloso for all her hard work! If you run into any problems please feel free to contact me. Queries relating to the Spanish version of the pattern will be passed on to Julia.
I am also very grateful to my ‘Knit and Natter’ friend Ann Mulford for her helpful guide to adding a zipped top to the bag. You’ll find this in a supplementary file available via the download link.
These bags are a great way to use up leftover yarn. Decorate them with beads, buttons, tassels, anything - let your imagination run riot!
