Technique:
Overlay Mosaic Crochet with slanted stitches: each round is made with one color and consists of single crochet in the back loop (sc blo) and double crochet in the front loop (dc flo)

Stitches:
In addition to vertical dc, I also use slanted dc and extended dc (made one or two stitches back or forward), decreases, increases, and occasionally, front post stitches (there is a video and explanation for all stitches)

Size:

• Bag without a bottom and Pillow, Width x Height: 34 cm x 34 cm/ 13 ⅜’’ x 13 ⅜’’
• Bag with a bottom, Width x Depth x Height: 26 cm x 8 cm x 34 cm/ 10 ⅛’’ x 3 ¼’’ x 13 ⅜’’

Recommended materials:

Yarn:

• Fingering/ 4ply weight such as Scheepjes Whirlette (60% Cotton x 40% Acrylic, 100g/ 455m) or Scheepjes Whirl (60% Cotton x 40% Acrylic, 215-225g/ 1000m)

For a bag:

• Total: 258 (285, 298) g (includes 10% extra)
• Yarn1 (background) for hand-bag (shoulder-bag, convertible shoulder-bag /backpack), 169 (196, 209) g/ 2 (2, 3) Whirlette in 886 Almond Butter (18 g for the bottom, 108 g for mosaic, 12 g for upper edge backing, 8 g for water bubbles,23 (50) g for hand-bag (shoulder-bag) handles, 63 g for convertible shoulder handles / backpack straps)
• Yarn2 (contrast): 83 g/ 1 Whirl in 791 Kiwi Crush Crumble
• Eye (blue): 0.4 g / 150 cm/ 59’’ 1 Whirlette in 881 Yummy
• Water bubbles contour (blue): 5g of Whirlette in 881 Yummy (the same as eye)
• Eye light reflection (white): 0.2 g / 75 cm/ 29 ½’’/ 1 Whirlette in 860 Ice
• Eye pupil (black): 0.1 g / 40 cm /16 ¾’’/ 1 Whirlette in 851 Liquorice

For a pillow:

• Total: 205g (includes 10% extra)
• Yarn1 (background and water bubbles): 116 g/ 2 Whirlette in 886 Almond Butter
• Yarn2 (contrast): 83 g/ 1 Whirl in 791 Kiwi Crush Crumble
• Eye (blue): 0.4 g / 150 cm/ 59’’/ 1 Whirlette in 881 Yummy
• Yarn4 (eye): 1g/ 1 Whirlette in 853 Mango
• Water bubbles contour (blue): 5 g of Whirlette in 881 Yummy (the same as eye)

Other materials and tools:

For a bag:

• Crochet hooks: 2.5 mm (for the bag body), 2.75 mm (for handles), 3 mm (for foundation), tapestry needle, stitch markers
• Lining (width x height): 72cm x 44cm/ 28 ¼’’ x 17 ¼’’ of pre-quilted fabric. Height: bag height + ½ of the bottom width + 6 cm/ 2 ⅜’’
• Upper edge reinforcement (width x length): 9 cm x 72 cm/ 3 ½’’ x 28 ¼’’ piece of ultra firm stabilizer (buckram or Pellon 70 Peltex Sew-In). Length: bag width x 2 + 4 cm/ 1 ½’’
• Optional bag bottom reinforcement (width x length): 6 cm x 26 cm/ 2 ⅜’’ x 10 ¼’’piece of plastic canvas. Size: bag bottom measurements minus 1.5 cm/ ⅝’’ from each side
• For sewing: sewing machine, sewing thread (match lining and handles), hand-sewing needle
• Fastening: 1 x sew-on magnetic snap (3 x for convertible version)
• Convertible version only: 2 x D-rings (outer width x inner width: 38mm x 32mm/ 1 ½’’ x 1 ¼’’)

For a pillow:

• Crochet hook: 2.5-3mm. For a sturdier bag with higher fabric density, 2.5 mm hook is recommended. For a pillow, a larger hook (up to 3 mm) can be used, which may result in slightly larger dimensions.
• Pillow insert: pillow size or up to 1-2 cm/ ⅜ – ¾’’ bigger
• Zipper (optional): 29 cm/ 11 ⅜’’ invisible zipper Length: pillow width minus 5cm/ 2’’
• Tapestry needle, stitch markers
