Since princess Maxima of the Netherlands wore an outfit completely made of old mail bags, the postal theme became a hype among (Dutch) crafters. Knitters don’t have to hunt for old bags. Yarn is all they need to make these postal themed mittens.

To emphasize the recycle style, both mittens are different. You can ‘assemble’ each mitten to your personal liking. Pick a cuff, choose a mitten body, and knit the mitten top you prefer. (Of course you can knit both mittens alike.)

The mittens are knit in the round. The words ‘Priorité’ and ‘Par Avion’ are charted, not written. You can knit them, but also graft them on later. The hearts are knitted seperately.

Brims are knitted vertically, but you don’t have to pick up sts from the side later. While knitting the brim, you cast on sts for rest of mitten at the same time (like an I-cord cast on).

Pattern has been testknitted by two testknitters and the designer. Pattern has been tech edited by Marja Austin a.k.a. Dutch Knitter.

Amount of yarn used: almost 1 skein of main color. Max. half a skein of contrasting colors.

Have fun and stay warm!
