Seaside Wildflower Shawl
Shawl Construction
A triangular-shaped shawl that starts with a unique garter stitch tab and increases within the design elements. We begin our knitting stroll with a simple lace field of flowers and the precious buttercup. As children, we would pick a buttercup and hold it under a friend’s chin to see if their chin turned a yellow color. The reflection indicated that they liked “butter”. Next in our adventure is the beautiful purple Wild Lupine that grows in abundance along the roadsides and blooms in June. You will not forget the fields of tall, stately purple blossoms. As we continue on our journey, you will knit the lovely Rugosa Rose and their associated Rose Hips. In the fall, after the roses have stopped blooming, the hips turn the most beautiful shades of orange and red. In between the various patterns are garter stitch rows that provide you time to rest and ponder about your own visits to the seaside. At the end of our shawl knitting trek, a delightful picot bind-off is used to frame the piece. The Seaside Wildflower Shawl is perfect to wrap around yourself while cooking marshmallows on the beach or sitting in a porch rocker listening to the waves crash against the rocks.
