The Selbbob Hat is one of eleven engaging patterns from Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting by Anna Maltz – a beautiful, 160 page, full-colour, litho-printed book packed with photographs, knowledge, anecdotes and opinion to introduce you to the technique of Marlisle. It features 22 interesting yarns from dedicated small-producers while celebrating the breadth of our knitting community. Available from www.annamaltz.com and friendly yarn shops around the world. Launch date 10 February, 2018.

A simple, in the round, bottom up hat construction, zhooshed up with a corrugated rib brim (looks good and helps keep the hat on snugly). The easy-peasy stocking stitch background is punctuated by staggered rounds of bobbles.

SIZING
S (M, L)
Designed to be worn with 5cm/2”negative ease at the brim (worn around the forehead). Size L is likely to fit like a slouchy.

Corrugated Rib Brim circumference: 45 (48, 51)cm/18 (19, 20)”
Widest round circumference: 54 (58, 62)cm/21¼ (23, 24½)”
Depth: 21 (22, 22)cm/8½ (8¾, 8¾)”

(Measurements clearly illustrated on a schematic drawing in the pattern.)

YARN
Yarn A:
Town End Yarn, Pure Natural Alpaca (4ply/fingering; 100% Alpaca; 160m/175y per 50g/1.76oz)
Latte or Rose Grey x 1

Yarn B: The Wool Kitchen, Sock (4ply/fingering; 80% Bluefaced Leicester, 20% bamboo (machine washable); 400m/437y per 100g/3½oz)
Runner x 1

The suggested quantities should give you enough Yarn B to knit two size S hats. There is only enough Yarn A to knit one hat.

GAUGE
29 stitches x 42 rounds = 10cm x 10cm/4” x 4” over 3x1 Corrugated Rib on smaller needles after blocking. (For Corrugated Rib Brim.)
24 stitches x 30 rounds = 10cm x 10cm/4” x 4” over stocking stitch using both yarns held together on larger needles after blocking. (For Body.)

Swatching note: Remember to swatch in the round to get the truest indication of what your hat will be. The rib gauge for sts is most important to match closely, as the Corrugated Rib Brim dictates whether the hat will fit on your head.

SUGGESTED NEEDLES
3.25mm (US3)
for Corrugated Rib Brim.
4.5mm (US7) for Body.
