Selma Cardigan
A crochet cardigan that’s as effortless to wear as it is to layer—perfect for any season!
SKILL LEVEL: Between easy and intermediate
LANGUAGES AVAILABLE: English
FEATURES: A unique shaping method
When designing the Selma cardigan, my goal was to use simple stitches and an easy construction while still achieving the perfect fit. I developed a straightforward method to shape the garment, making it possible for crocheters with less experience to create a well-fitting cardigan. Although I have tried to make the shaping as easy as possible, it will, of course, be more advanced than a pattern made up of a few rectangles sewn together. The skill level is therefore somewhere between easy and intermediate.
There are lots of pictures explaining every step, to make this pattern clear and easy to follow.
PATTERN TYPE: Made to measure
The pattern is written in a “measure yourself” style, which means it does not contain any specific stitch counts, gauges, yardages, or sizes. Instead, you will measure on yourself or the one you make it for to get the right fit.
Since it is a made-to-measure pattern, you can choose the yarn you want to work with. Any yarn weight can be used, and you may also choose whether you want to work with one strand or more strands held together. How much yarn you will need depends on the chosen yarn, the size you make it, and how long and wide you want it to be. Below you can see which yarn, and how much, I used to make my cardigans.
To make this cardigan, you will need:
Yarn of your choice
A crochet hook that fits the chosen yarn
Stitch markers
Scissors
Tapestry needle
What I used to make the white sample(size S):
Yarn: Drops safran
Hook size: 3.5 mm
Amount: Approx. 960 m / 1050 yds
What I used to make the brown sample (size S):
Yarn: Drops brushed alpaca silk
Hook size: 6 mm. (However, if I were to make it
again, I would probably reduce the hook size to
achieve greater density)
Amount: Approx. 560 m / 612 yds
