Serotonin socks
Extra long scrappy socks
If there is one thing that truly makes me happy, it is knitting scrappy socks, preferably extra-long ones. That’s why these socks are called Serotonin socks, because serotonin is a little ‘happiness chemical’ that helps your brain feel calm, happy, and balanced. I make these Seronin socks from all kinds of leftovers of solid, variegated, or self-striping sock yarn (aka scraps), which I knit together in stripes. Sometimes I simply grab the next scrap blindly and see what happens; other times I select the scraps by color to create a more balanced overall look. But it always works! Especially during the cold, often grey months of the year, a burst of color on my needles really lifts my spirits. In this pattern, I am very happy to share my recipe for “instant happiness” with you.
The instructions in this booklet are provided in three languages (Dutch, English, German), each clearly marked with colors. In addition, the pattern includes print instructions per language. I wish you lots of knitting fun! Separate pages are included for heel/foot and toe instructions. Enjoy your knitting!

A handy table shows how many stitches you need to cast on so the sock fits properly over or on your calf. Then you gradually decrease stitches towards the lower leg. You make the leg as long as you like, up to mid-calf or all the way to the knee.
Material
You can use 90-120 grams of any scraps of 4 ply sock yarn you like, with a gauge of 30x42, by 10x10 cm. When you choose a sock yarn with a gauge of 28 x 40 the socks will be a little wider.
