The Lysa mitten was the very first mitten pattern I designed, in November 2016, created with a heartfelt wish for a brighter and warmer world, filled with compassion and love. Now, ten years later in October 2026, that wish remains, and here is a new edition of the Lysa mitten pattern, with clearer instructions and charts, new pictures, and it’s now written in two sizes suitable for both women and men. Depending on your knitting tension, the sizes can be adjusted further. The sizes are called Women’s and Men’s, but of course they can be worn by anyone.
The traditional pattern on the back of the mitten is an old motif that has appeared on mittens from Gotland and Öland in Sweden, as well as in Estonia. The floral pattern on the cuff was commonly used on older mittens from Öland.
