Here is my latest free sock design which I hope you will enjoy.

This design is written generically to allow you to knit a bespoke fitting sock - the foot and toe length is adjustable.

The design shows sizing for a foot circumference of 8 1/2” / 21.5 cm and the gauge is measured as 9 stitches per inch over stocking stitch.

The leg pattern is knitted on a larger size set of needles to allow for negative ease from the simple cable pattern.

This sock design is ideal for beginners wishing to move on to knitting cables - it’s a good first project. Alternatively, experienced knitters can use this design to make use of their hidden sock ‘stash’ of yarn (me too - I’m guilty!) for those last minute gifts, charity knits etc.

If you are knitting a small to medium size sock (UK size 3 - 4) then you will only need 100g of Fabel sock yarn, however, if you need to make a larger size then you will need at least 150g.

My inspiration for this sock design came from living on the coast - I only live a few minutes walk from the sea. When the tide goes out, on a sunny day, there is an amazing view of the exposed sea bed - the water makes rippled patterning on the sand, hence, the name ‘Shivering Sands’ Sock.

Thank you for taking an interest in this new design - I hope that you enjoy knitting your own pair(s) of ‘Shivering Sands’ Socks as much I have.

Don’t forget to post pictures of your finished socks - I love to see all your finished projects on Ravelry.

Please do feel free to send me feedback - your comments / advice are invaluable to help me progress with my designs - thank you :)

Happy knitting everyone! xx
