Sidewinder Socks
A rhythmic lace-and-twisted-rib sock inspired by Japanese stitch design.

About This Design
Japanese stitch dictionaries are a constant source of inspiration for me. The lace used in Sidewinder is adapted from a simple motif in Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida (translated by Gayle Roehm).

The lace gently “wiggles” up the leg, while twisted rib creates vertical structure and ensures a snug, comfortable fit around the foot and ankle. The interplay between flowing lace and clean rib lines gives these socks a balanced, almost meditative feel — soothing to knit and elegant to wear.

Gauge
36 sts x 52 rounds = 10 cm / 4 in
Stockinette stitch in the round using 2.25 mm (US 1 / UK 13) needles. An accurate stitch gauge is essential for fit. If needed, adjust needle size and swatch again before beginning.

Yarn
Approx. 400 m / 437 yds of 4-ply / fingering weight sock yarn (Approx. 100 g with 400 m per 100 g). Sample shown in Fiori “Sock” 4-ply Australian Extra Fine Merino/Nylon in Tangerine Nougat.

Needles
• 2.25 mm (US 1 / UK 13) 60 cm / 24 in circular
• Optional 2.5 mm (US 1.5 / UK 12) for cuff
