I’ve made Sidney the Seagull using a jumbo #7 weight plush yarn. This is ideal for a big soft and huggable toy and is a pretty quick make. He sits just under 14 inches tall in jumbo yarn - 9 inches tall in super chunky and 7 inches in Aran (when made with the recommended materials).

The 11 page pattern is intermediate skill level and is available in US and UK terminology – both versions will be available for you to download. It is clear to follow with detailed instructions and lots of pictures for step by step making and assembly. The pattern also includes an adjustment for making your seagull using a non-plush yarn and picture instructions for colour change and back loop only.

The following stitches/techniques are used in this pattern:
US Terminology - magic ring or chain 2 to start, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, increase, decrease (sc2tog), colour change, back loop only
UK Terminology - magic ring or chain 2 to start, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble, treble, increase, decrease (dc2tog), colour change, back loop only

Recommended Materials:

  • Yarn: I have made Sidney using Premier Parfait XL (jumbo weight plush yarn) - colour and weight details in pattern
  • Hook: 9mm (M/N) crochet hook
  • Stuffing: I use polyester filling
  • Safety eyes: I have used 24mm plastic safety eyes, but you can embroider the eyes on if you prefer
  • Large yarn needle
  • Pins/ami sticks
  • (A stitch marker and row counter are useful)
