Signal Rock Hat by Victoria Magnus for Midwinter Yarns

This hat is a simple and quick knit which creates a super-light yet warm fabric. The juxtaposition of the hardy Snaeldan Aran combined with the delicate fluffy mohair is quite fun, and adds beautiful depth and texture. The pattern is written for one size, but it is quite stretchy so will fit a good range of head sizes.

Materials

Snaeldan Aran (5ply/aran, Faroese/ Falkland wool blend, 150m/100g) available from www.midwinteryarns.com

1x 100g natural or 2x 50g colours
(Sorrel Red used in sample)

AND

Eden Cottage Yarns, Eldwick Lace (2ply/laceweight, 72% kid mohair/28% silk, 420m/50g)
10g Dianthus used in sample
available from www.edencottageyarns.co.uk

Both yarns are used held together throughout the pattern.

Needles and Accessories

One 6mm (US10) 40cm (or longer for magic loop) circular needle (or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge).

One stitch marker for beginning/end of round; tapestry needle; scissors

Optional: You might want to use double pointed needles for the crown decreasing once the stitches no longer fit easily on a circular needle.

Note: this pattern is worked in the round; use whichever method you prefer for this.

Size

One size (could be adapted by casting on more or fewer stitches) to fit head circumference of: 60cm / 23.5in
Finished circumference after blocking: 50cm / 19.75in unstretched; 65cm / 25.5in stretched
Length: 21cm / 8.25in (can be easily adapted)

Gauge

13sts and 16 rows to 10cm (4in), after blocking.

Yarn kits containing both necessary yarns are available from Midwinter Yarns
