The “Silver Coat 2020” is a new, completely re-worked version of my very first Ravelry pattern from 2009.

The coat is worked top-down from the shoulders, first back and fronts separately. Then sleeve stitches are being picked up from the edges, and back, fronts and both sleeves are worked back and forth in long rows. (Btw, this is no Raglan construction, instead the upper body is shaped using a few shorts, excluding the sleeves).

The cable panels with the diamonds on the body are arranged in an X-like shape, with Stockinette wedges between those panels where the increases for the skirt are placed.

There are 2 options for the sleeves: normal or trumpet shape.

The coat comes with two options: hood or collar. At the very end, the button band is added, holding the collar in 2 layers (for collar version).

Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL, with bust circumferences of 91, 100, 109, 118, 126 and 134cm.

Gauge in Stockinette is 18 sts x 28 rows on 10cm. In case you are working at a different gauge, for an indoor cardigan: 2 sts more on 10cm will result in the piece getting approx. one size smaller (this is merely a rule of thumb, not an exact calculation).

1700/ 1850/ 2000/ 2150/ 2300/ 2450 meters of a Worsted or Aran Weight yarn which knits up to the given gauge (calculated for a coat length of approx. 105-110cm, with 100m for approx. 5-7cm additional skirt length, including approx. 200m for the hood).

This is a pattern for the more experienced knitter, because a lot of things happen at the same time when working the yoke (afterwards, it gets more relaxing, I promise!)
