This is a super simple poncho adapted from the common “two rectangles” patterns. It is also an easy pattern that is great for beginners.

As written, it’s sized to be loose on my frame, fitting a size medium-large top, but would easily be made smaller (or larger). I made it with size 10 needles to make it more lacey, but it could be done with size 8 needles for a smaller size.

I used two skeins of the Caron Simply Soft yarn, which is very inexpensive and easy to work with. The pattern makes one rectangle, which you do twice to make two rectangles, then sew them together as shown in the diagram.

Original post had an error for the CO small size, which should be 54 sts (not 84), and so the foundation row would also be corrected for the smaller size.
