This is an easier one, requiring fewer materials to start—you only need one needle size, the handles are garter stitch, and the body pattern is a simple open mesh—but the results are really nice!

Using Valley Yarns 3/2 cotton, this string market bag has plenty of stretch and can be knit in your choice of colors.

Materials:

  • 400yds Valley Yarns 3/2 Cotton or similar yarn
  • 1 16” circular needle in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge
  • 1 set of DPNs in same size
  • Smooth scrap yarn for provisional crochet cast-on
  • Crochet hook, size suited to yarn, for provisional crochet cast-on tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • removable stitch markers

Gauge:
Gauge, taken from the handle strap, is 5 sts and 6 rows 10 over 1”/2.54cm in garter stitch. The body mesh should be knit with the same needles, at a gauge that’s open but not flimsy.

Measurements:
This is extremely stretchy fabric, so these are approximate flat measurements.
Across: 13”/33cm
Total Height: 12”/30cm
Height from top band: 11”/28cm
