Classic single crochet mitts don’t have to look boring or basic! This easy pattern comes in 2 sizes for adults, plus a size for children, toddlers, and a cute pair of mittens for newborns.

This crochet pattern is available for free on my website or you can download it here as a print-optimized, ad-free PDF for your convenience.

Difficulty:
Easy

Materials Needed:
3.5mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge.
3.25mm hook for trim
35, 52, 72, 102, 125 yds of #4 worsted weight Patons Classic Wool in Blush, Grey Mix, Aran or the color of your choice
Yarn needle
Scissors
(optional) Stitch markers

Stitches Used:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet

Additional Terms:
Back bar of sc = look at the back of the stitch and locate the short bar that runs horizontal. Work all designated stitches for the round into this bar. This is a different location than the back loop!

Gauge:
16 sc in 4”, 18 rows in 4” of height

Measurements:
Newborn mittens: 2 1/4” wide by 4” tall
Toddler: 3 1/2” wide at widest point, by 4” tall
Child: 4” wide at widest point, by 5” tall
Adult: 4 1/2” wide at widest point, by 6” tall
Adult XL: 5” wide at widest point, by 7” tall

Additional Notes:
-Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
-Pull your slip stitch joins snug to minimize the seam.
-Be sure to make a gauge swatch before beginning these mitts. Patons Classic wool is a thin #4 worsted weight yarn. If you try to make these with Red Heart Super Saver or Caron One Pound yarn the resulting mitts will be huge unless you also use a smaller hook. Caron Simply Soft, or Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn will be closer to the thickness of the Patons Classic Wool if you can’t wear wool, or prefer acrylic yarn.
-I’ve also included a little pair of newborn mittens because, let’s face it, tiny things are cute (babies and mittens)!
