While discovering and creating items using Tunisian crochet, I came to appreciate the almost architectural aspects of using vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines in one pattern. Also, working Tunisian crochet in the round lends itself well to playing with color, as the forward pass can be one color, and the return pass can be another. Soon, I found my head swimming with ideas for my first pattern. I hope that you enjoy this journey. I’m not going to promise that it’s for the faint of heart, but the end result will be wonderful!

This Tunisian crochet pattern produces a cowl that takes advantage of the ability to play with colors while working in the round. It is an intermediate-level pattern that presumes familiarity with working in the round and a comfort level with basic Tunisian crochet stitches. The finished cowl measures 55 inches long and 8 inches wide - instructions are included to make it longer or shorter.

This pattern works well with three different colors of DK weight yarn - one 100g skein each. In the Foundation Row you will need to use a hook with a long cable for the chain, forward, and return pass. For the rest of the project, you will need to use either a double-ended hook or two hooks of the same size joined by a cable. You will need one stitch marker.

Stitches used include: Tss, Tfs, Tks, Tps, Twss, Tcs, Tss2Tog, STss, and YO. Special stitch patterns incorporating these stitches include the honeycomb stitch pattern, and the diagonal eyelet stitch pattern. There is a verbal description of every stitch in this pattern. Video tutorials may be found online using a search engine or a website such as YouTube. There is a suggestion for how to simplify the pattern if you are looking for something less adventurous.

This pattern has both been technical edited and tested. The resulting cowl is at the same time squishy and comfortable, while also displaying strong design elements and texture. I hope that it sparks creativity for you - thank you for your interest!
