The intricate geometric colourwork of the Skipton skirt matches well with solid coloured wardrobe staples for a modern look. The skirt reaches to a little above the knee, with the waistband sitting on the upper hip, just below the natural waist.

Construction

Knit in the round from the bottom up. The body is knit in stranded colourwork, using one main colour and one contrast colour per round. Decreases integrated in the colourwork shape the curve from lower to upper hip.

The waistband is knit separately, top down and flat, and attached to the body with a three-needle bind off. The opening in the waistband is reinforced with crochet stitches and then fitted with four hook and eye closures.

The hem is sewn double and finished with applied i-cord.

Sizes

Sizes are based on maximum hip circumference (actual measurement of the widest point of the hips); the FO will have 2.25”/ 6 cm (2 XS) to 4.75”/ 12 cm (3 XL) of negative ease compared to this measurement.

Number of 100 gr, 400 m/ 437 yds MC skeins:

CC: a quantity equivalent to the MC with a margin per colour. Number of 20 gr, 80 m/ 88 yds CC skeins:

2XS: 10, XS: 11, S to M/L: 12, L and L/XL 13, XL 14, and 2XL and 3 XL: 15.

Samples

The yarn used in the blue/green and dusty rose/ coral pink samples are custom dyed kits available from The Fox and The Knight; the yellow/green prototype is knit in The Knitting Goddess Britsock, using the grellow colour wheel set.

They are modelled with the following amounts of negative ease:

rose/ pink: around 2.25”/ 6 cm;
the blue/green: around 3”/ 8 cm;
yellow/green: around 4”/ 10 cm.
