Slip Stitch Summer Bag
This fun, summery bag is worked flat in a 2x2 slip stitch pattern that creates a firm, textured fabric, perfect for bags.
The graphical, abstract shapes are created using the intarsia technique and the pattern describes a version with and a version
without a flap.
The bag is knitted as a single rectangle, which is then folded in half, where the sides are joined using an I-cord bind-off, which continues
as an I-cord strap. You can personalise the bag according to your preferences: Leave it simple, add a zipper, lining or a flap with a matching I-cord edge.
Versions: Without flap (with flap)
Gauge: 32 sts x 74 rows (37 garter ridges) to 10 x 10cm (4 x 4in) in the slip stitch pattern.
Needles: 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles for the bag body and 2.5mm (US 1.5) circular needles for the (I-cord) cast-off and strap.
Yarn: A sport or light DK weight yarn in a blend of wool and plant fibres added for strength. Alternately, use a strand of wool yarn held together with a strand of linen yarn.
Requirement for bag without flap (with flap):
MC: 27 (45) g
CC1: 12 (12) g
CC2: 7,5 (10) g
CC3: 9 (9) g
CC4: 7,5 (8,5) g
CC5: 11,5 (15) g
Note: These amounts are based on a strap of about 100cm (39.25 inches). If you choose to change the length of the strap, adjust your yardage accordingly.
