I played around with this slip stitch pattern for quite awhile, wanting something playful and warm without being too heavy. It took me a while to find the right garment for this slip stitch pattern, and in the end, I found two.

Slipping Up is a bottom-up vest featuring a slip stitch pattern. Its companion pattern is Slipping Down, a top-down circular yoke pullover. The patterns are available together as the eBook Slipping Up and Down.

This vest is worked from the bottom up. It is worked in the round from the hem to the underarm, then divided into the front and back after the underarm bind-off. The front stitches are put on hold while the back is worked flat from the underarm to the shoulder. The front is then worked flat. The shoulders are seamed together, then the sleeve edges and collar are worked in ribbing.

The colourwork is accomplished through a slip-stitch pattern worked in 5 colours. The slip stitch pattern provides a lot of colour and texture, so the garment’s shape needs to be simple and respond to the density of the fabric. There is a 3” gap between sizes to give better fit options. There are 2 length options for the vest - one that ends at the high hip (SHORT), and one that is standard length (LONG).
