This is a pattern that will work in any gauge and any yarn, just make sure you use hook of apropriate size (a bit smaller than yarn calls for).

To make this cupcake I used:

small amount of 8/4 yarn in two main colors, I worked with double thread and hook no 3,5 mm
polyester fiberfill
blunt end needle
stitch marker
yarn scraps to decorate
In this pattern I used back post single crochet stitch to define the edge on the bottom a bit better and make cupcake stands better. You may, however, replace this stitch with working in back loops only, it will still give some edge definition.
