About The Design
Social Climber is a fun and unique design. The shawl is constructed by knitting small blocks of stockinette, splitting them in half and rejoining later to create large open spaces in your fabric.

About The Pattern

  • This pattern is in a table format to make it easier for you to track your progress.
  • There are photo and video tutorials included to help you understand the construction of the work before you get started. Lots of helpful tips and information is included throughout the pattern to provide context and to link you back to video tutorials if you need a visual.
  • This pattern has been tested by knitters who have self-selected their skill level as either Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Beginner knitters gave the common feedback that the hardest part of the pattern was understandigthe construction but that all knitting techniques were straightforward and easy. I would classify this pattern at either an “adventurous beginner” or Intermediate level

Notes On Yarn Choice

  • The great thing about this design is that you can make it with any yarn you like, no matter the weight.
  • The size of the wrap is determined by how many stockinette blocks you make during the cast on process and how many repeats of the main body section you complete. You can stop and bind off at any time. So, generally speaking, the lighter your yarn, the smaller your stockinette blocks are and the more blocks you will need to make during the cast on.
  • The most important factor when selecting yarn is the meterage/yardage. I used approximately 600m of yarn for my green sample and 1200m of yarn for my speckled/fade sample. See more details below.

My Samples
Sample 1 (Green)

  • Blocked Gauge: 16 stitches/20 rows over 4”/10cm in stockinette
  • Needles: 6mm 80-100cm Circular Needles
  • Yarn: 6 x balls of The Wind Cries Merino from Spotlight in Australia. 65% Merino, 25% Baby Alpaca, 10% Microfibre Polyamide. 25g/120m PER BALL I held this yarn double throughout the project. This is like a 12ply weight
  • Size: Length: 175cm/ Width: 30cm

Sample 2 (Speckled/Fade Sample)

  • Blocked Gauge: 20 stitches/ 24 rows over 4”/10cm in stockinette
  • Needles: 4.5mm 80-100cm Circular Needles
  • Yarn: 15 x Hedgehog Fibres Sock Minis (full list of colours and fading technique in project photos); 90% Merino, 10% Nylon, 20g/80m PER MINI; I held this yarn double throughout the project. This is like a DK/8ply weight.
  • Size: Length: 180cm, Width: 47cm
