Knit using 4.5mm (US #7) straight & double pointed needles with a medium weight (#4) wool (appx 198 m per 112 gm/216 yds per 4 oz skein to achieve a gauge of approximately 18 stitches and 26 rows to a 10 cm (4”) square when knit in a stockinette stitch. The mittens pictured were knit with Custom Woolen Mill’s 2 ply mule-spun blend of merino and rambouillet wool.

Based on the information noted above, you will need a single 112 g (4 oz) skein of worsted weight wool for your main colour, with just a few yards of white and red worsted weight wool (or whatever colours you might have in your “stash”) for these mittens. This pattern includes sizing for small/medium mittens, with sizing for medium/large mittens in squared brackets.
