Soft Current Tee carries forward the soft flow and gorgeous texture of our original Soft Current Shawl, this time as an easygoing, lightweight tee. With simple lace-and-cable panels, clean shaping, and thoughtful seamless construction, it’s a meditative knit, full of thoughtful shaping details you’ll notice from cast-on to bind-off.
Knit in fingering-weight yarn, this tee is light on the skin and layers easily through changing seasons. It’s designed with a relaxed fit and a flattering neckline, making it the kind of top you’ll reach for again and again.
Design Details
This top-down tee features short-row shaping at both front and back neckline for a better fit, and a seamless shoulder join that flows cleanly into the lace panel. The fit is relaxed but intentional, comfortable without feeling oversized.
We’ve scaled the lace motif on the back to maintain visual balance across sizes, so it looks cohesive and well-proportioned no matter which size you make.
What We Love About the Yarn
We knit our sample in Bliss Sock by Yarn Nouveau, and we can’t say enough good things about it. The blend of superwash merino, cashmere, and nylon hits that perfect trifecta of softness, drape, and stitch definition, so every cable pops, every lace eyelet is crisp, and the fabric feels lovely against your skin.
Colorway: Seaside & Copper Fox
Fiber: 80% Superwash Merino / 10% Cashmere / 10% Nylon
Yardage: 400 yards (365 m) per 100g skein
Why You’ll Love It
- Seamless, top-down construction for a smooth knitting experience
- Neckline and shoulder shaping for a flattering fit
- Lace and cable textures that look fancy but feel approachable
- Transitional Seasonal style light and breathable on its own, easy to layer
Construction Overview
Soft Current Tee is worked seamlessly from the top down. The shoulders and neckline are shaped using short rows, then the front and back are worked flat to the underarm. After joining in the round, the body is knit to your preferred length and finished with 2x2 ribbing, no seaming required.
Needles & Gauge
- US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles, 16–20”
- 26 sts x 36 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette (flat and in the round, wet blocked and gently pinned)
Yardage Requirements
620 (700, 850, 1000, 1150, 1300)(1450, 1600, 1750, 1885, 2000) yds
566 (640, 778, 914, 1052, 1190)(1326, 1464, 1600, 1724, 1830) m
Finished Measurements
We recommend choosing a size with 6–10” (15–25 cm) of positive ease at the bust. Less ease may change how the neckline, shoulders, and sleeves sit on your body.
