✿ A cozy textured beanie, crocheted flat in simple rows.

The Soft Willow Crochet Beanie is worked flat, from side to side, so the whole hat starts as one simple rectangle. Rows of single crochet and a crossed treble give it a soft, leaning willow texture, while back loop slip stitches at each end build the ribbed brim and shape the crown in the very same row. Join the edges with a slip stitch seam, cinch the top closed with your tail, and add a faux fur pompom if you like.

It comes in eight sizes from Newborn to Adult Large, with a regular brim or a fold up brim, so one pattern covers the whole family. My sister Kirsten designed, crocheted, and filmed this one herself.

✨ What makes it work

• Worked flat. It’s a rectangle first and a hat second, with no rounds to count.
• Brim and crown in one row. The ribbing and the crown shaping build as you go, so there’s nothing to add at the end.
• Just a few stitches. Single crochet, slip stitch, and one crossed treble, all shown in the video.
• Two brim styles. A regular 1” brim, or a taller fold up brim for extra warmth over the ears.
• Eight sizes. Newborn all the way to Adult Large.
• You’re not on your own. Video tutorial, stitch chart, and schematic included.
