The Sonya Socks are knitted with fingering weight sock yarn on 2.5mm needles (US1.5).
This pattern is written as a toe-up sock with a split gusset, Eye of Partridge heel, and a 2x2 rib folded cuff with a ruffle accent.

The Sonya Socks are inspired by the tender resilience of Dostoevsky’s Sonya Marmaladova, a character who bears sorrow with grace and soft beauty. The delicate texture and feminine frills make these socks perfect for curling up in a library with a book or curled beneath a blanket with a new cast-on.

SIZES (APPROX), MEASURED AROUND MID-FOOT
• Small 6.5”/16.5cm unstretched, 8”/20.25cm stretched
• Medium 8”/20.25cm unstretched, 10”/25.5cm stretched
• Large 9”/22.75cm unstretched, 11”/28cm stretched

MATERIALS
100g 2-ply sock yarn. Any yarn that yields the correct gauge should be suitable.
My sample uses Emma’s Yarn Practically Perfect Sock Yarn in the shade Sprout.

GAUGE
30 sts x 44 rows per 4” (10 cm) square, measured over stocking stitch in the round.

A note on the gauge: If you are a tight knitter, or you have a tighter gauge when doing cables or knit-purl texture, size up. Since the leg is knit with all-around cables, it will be tighter than the foot, and you risk not being able to get the sock on.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
• 2.5mm/US 1.5 circular needle (or whatever size is necessary to achieve gauge), 32”/80cm
• Stitch markers x 2
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
