Third time’s a charm, they say – and so I have again re-used some of the ideas of the Spica cowl and the
Spica shirt: A combination of Garter and a Garter slip stitch pattern, with their specific gauges, will be used to shape the upper part of the sweater, including the ¾ sleeves which are knitted at the same time as the upper body.

You start with the upper part of the back in Garter stripes, including both sleeves (sideways), and work up to the shoulders. The Garter slip stitch pattern gradually spreads from the sleeves’ edges to the center of the body. When you reach the shoulders, you separate the piece into right and left front and, with the slip stitch pattern shaping the neck effortlessly, you work your way down to the underarms again.

There you unravel the provisional cast-on and join the sleeves at their lower ends. The lower body is worked in the round in Stockinette.

Gauge:

  • 25 sts x 35 rows in Stockinette
  • 25 sts x 50 rows in Garter
  • 25 sts x 70 rows in Garter slip stitch (stretched a little bit).

2 sts less per 10cm will result in the piece getting approx. one size bigger (this is merely a rule
of thumb, not an exact calculation).

Required yarn:
Approx. 650/ 700/ 750/ 800/ 850 m of MC and 600/ 650/ 700/ 750/ 800 m of CC.
The sample was worked in Zauberwiese Merino Superwash Hightwist.

Bust width: 86/ 94/ 102/ 110/ 118m.
The sweater is intended to be worn with some ease (approx. 10cm).
