A garter and lace asymmetrical shawl knitting pattern designed in two sizes to be knit in either one or two colors.

THE STORY
I find a huge amount of inspiration on my Instagram feed. With such an active knitting community online I am rarely more than a click away from my next perfect fibre pairing for a new design. This shawl is no different - a collaboration with Texas Dyed Wool was just what this shawl needed!

YARN
Small (1-Color Shawl):

  • Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label Fingering Weight (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 420 yds/115g per skein): 1 skein / 395 yds ‘Stained Glass’

Large (2-Color Shawl):

  • Ewe Ewe Yarns Fluffy Fingering (fingering weight; 100% superwash merino wool; 200 yds / 183 m per 50g skein), 2 (3) skeins: The two-tone green sample uses 2 skeins ‘Color 45 Soft Sage’ for Sections 1-8 (MC) and 1 skein ‘Color 53 Forest Fern’ for the Border (CC). To make a small 1-color version, you will need just two skeins of one color of your choice. To make a large 1-color version you will need 3 skeins of one color of your choice.

NOTIONS

  • US 5 (3.75mm) 32” / 80 cm circular needle (or preferred length).
  • Removable stitch marker
  • Row counter (optional)
  • Tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZES
55 (64)” / 140 (162.5) cm wingspan by 15 (18½)“ / 38 (47) cm tall at deepest point

NOTES

  • This shawl is worked primarily in knit stitches and is an asymmetrical shape. Written instructions are provided (no charts).
  • Although gauge is not critical for this project, a gauge different than that noted will result in the use of more (or less) yardage.
  • It is recommended to clip a removable marker to the RS of the work to differentiate from the WS as much of this shawl is worked in garter.
  • Both shawl sizes are knit following the same instructions up to the Shawl Border where instructions are separated into different sizes. Knit the Shawl Border section for the size being knit.
  • Picot bind-off requires 12 yds of yarn for these sizes.
  • Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge.
