Looking at a map from Montreal inspires me to this sock pattern. The streets look like perfectly parallel to each other, like lines. The streets are perpendicular, which looks like squares on the map of the town center.
In this sock pattern, you will find both, lines and squares: one half is in squares and the other half has lines. The fine structure of this geometric motif is reversed on the second sock for a perfect match.

The toe, heel and ribbing are worked in a contrasting colour. You can use any yarn for this as long as it has a contrast to the main colour. For the main colour I recommend a solid, light semi-solid or gradient yarn. The textured motif is too subtle for a variegated yarn.

This textured toe-up sock is written for 60, 64 and 68 sts, with a heel using german short rows and a gusset to give more ease. To add interest to the sock, there is an easily memorised texture pattern worked all over.

The instructions are in 2 parts, one fully written with charts for the right sock and one partly written with charts for the left sock.

You can also wear your sock inside out.
