These fingerless mitts feature squirrels and acorn & oak motifs. The palms have a simple salt and papper stitch and the pattern is finished with chevrons across the top and bottom.

This pattern is recommended for knitters who have experience with stranded colourwork, knitting in the round, and reading from charts. The pattern uses real Shetland woollen yarn from Jamiesons https://www.jamiesonsofshetland.co.uk/ in their undyed natural colours.

Materials

25g Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift - 1260 Raspberry (for background)
25g Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift – 343 Ivory (for pattern)
25g Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift – 249 Fern (for cuffs)

  • Set of 5 double pointed needles 2.25mm or circular needle for magic loop method
  • Set of 5 double pointed needles 2.5mm or circular needle for magic loop method (OR size required to get gauge)
  • Darning needle and waste yarn

Womens Size Medium, with plenty of stretch and flexibility will fit most womens hands.
mitt length 18cm, mitt width 9.5cm after blocking.

Stranded colourwork 36 Stitches and 36 rows = 10cm x 10cm , knit in the round and blocked.
Knitting to the correct tension is important to achieve the finished measurements noted above. Adjusting tension will alter the size of your mitts as well as yarn requirements.
