Squish Factor Cowl
Sometimes you just need something rhythmic and relaxing to knit which brings comfort.
This cowl was designed with that in mind. It is made up of simple stitch patterns such as Garter stitch and knit version Fisherman’s Rib, beautiful in their very simplicity, which makes for a quick knit, both relaxingly mindless and engaging, along with a twisted stitch central panel motif for interest, and that delivers a thick cosy cowl to wrap up in, high in squish factor.
It is knit as a long loop shape, worked by casting on the full number of stitches that will be worked by starting at the longer measurement of the rectangle, rather than side to side, and working down until bind off, keeping construction as simple as possible in view of the straightforward manner of this piece as a cosy comforting knit. You can obviously make it with your yarn of choice, but I have opted for a single ply 100% wool yarn, which is incredibly soft, lofty, and full of drape for the ultimate soft hug effect and I would recommend a similar such yarn if possible if you want to ramp up the cosiness. You can adjust both the height and circumference by adding / deducting repeats as explained within the Finished measurements section.

Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, binding off, knitting, purling, slipping stitches purlwise, Knit/Purl 1 Below( Video Tutorial Links are included), & Right & Left Twists (Video Tutorial Links are included).

Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied a buffer in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room. Also, it is in view of making the Cowl as the pattern states (which is also what the numbers in the Finished measurements section are dictated by), if you choose to add extra repeats of any kind, for width or length, this will obviously affect the amounts of the required yarn:
Requires approx. 490 yards / 488 metres Sport weight yarn.
For the Sample I used: Sporty Singles – Hedgehog Fibres, 100g, 328 yards
(300 meters) in the colourway ‘Poppy’
But any wool based Sport Weight yarn of choice should work fine.
Hedgehog Fibres Sporty Singles, ‘Poppy’, (requires 488 meters / 490 yards)
Needles: 4.5mm / US 7 Circular needle (80cm-150cm)
Notions: 23 stitch markers (or reflective of your cast on number) & unique BOR marker. Tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave in ends.

Gauge:
4” (10 cm) on 4.5 mm/US 7 needles (after blocking)
19 sts & 30 rounds in Garter stitch
20 sts & 44 rounds in the 12 stitch Twisted Diamond pattern Repeat, which can be found on page 3, within the pattern.
Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.
(I would suggest casting on at least 2 of the 12 stitch repeats and working at least 2 of the 11 rounds - 2 repeats therefore, divided by a marker, and working through round 1-11 twice - to have enough to measure, and to start from the actual beginning of the repeat comfortably.)

Finished measurements & relating notes:
Circumference: 28” / 70cm, (flat,2 layers)
Height / Depth: 9” / 23cm
These numbers are approximate and both are adjustable as explained within the pattern
