This crochet pattern is written in US/American Crochet terms, and I would say it is for a beginner. Basic beginner crochet stitches are used.

Finished rug/mat measures approximately 23” across at its widest point.

You will need a size Q and size L hook to complete this pattern. I used Bernat Blanket yarn and various bulky scrap yarn for the owl details.
