There are few images as evocative as the full moon in a star-filled winter sky above a blanket of white snow. There is something terrifying and yet comforting in the aspect of the moon in a vast expanse of darkness.
The Stella Luna Collection celebrates the phases of the moon and the winter skies with Scandinavian and Baltic inspired knitting techniques that result in head-turning knits to wear and show off – cozy works of art.
This first pattern in the collection is for the Wolf Moon Mittens and comes out with the January Wolf Moon. They will keep your hands cozy and warm wherever winter chills find you.

Pay What Works

Inspired by Francoise Danoy of Aroha Knits I will be using a Pay What Works model for my pattern. I encourage you to check out her patterns for more information.

This model is an effort to both respect and value the worth of the work done by the designer and those involved in producing the pattern and to acknowledge that ours is not an inexpensive pursuit and that finances can be a barrier to engagement and participation.

The Ravelry price is the true price of the pattern. To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you the coupon codes below can be used at checkout. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the base price for the pattern (highest price point).

This pattern is for head-turning stranded colourwork mittens. It is worked cuff up and techniques include: knitting in the round, stranded colourwork, afterthought thumb, and Latvian braid.

The pattern includes: detailed instructions; charts for the stranded designs; 5 charted options for the thumb; and an appendix with notes and tips on techniques used, yarn selection and substitution, and needle management.

Each pair of mittens requires 2 contrasting yarns, 160-180 yards/146-165 meters of the Main Colour (the blue in the sample); 100-110 yards/ 91-101 meters of the Contrast Colour (the natural in the sample) of a yarn that weighs in at 220 yards/202 meters per 100 grams/3.5 ounces.

As written the mittens fit a women’s medium hand; measuring 12 inches/30.5 cm from cast on cuff edge to fingertips and 9.25 inches/ 23.5 cm around the circumference of the palm, with room to stretch the width of the palm. Nearly all the women (and men) in our knitting and weaving groups found them to fit when they tried them on. One can easily increase or decrease gauge or yarn weight to increase or decrease size.

Please note this pattern is the first of a collection patterns that will be released individually throughout 2020 and then complied into an ebook at the end of the year.
