Steps Cowl

A fun easy to knit but still engaging little cowl, creating texture and interest as you work through the different steps of slipped stitch, garter ridges, and colourwork. Choose 4 shades of 4 ply yarn that can be divided into 2 pairs of complimentary yarn strands, building a marled effect, to make a fun cozy cowl.
Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, following a colourwork chart with 2 colours, slipping stitches & knitting & purling in the round.

Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:
Requires approx. 784 yards / 716 metres 4ply weight yarn.
For the Sample I used: Coop Knits, Socks Yeah! (75% Wool - Merino, 25% Manufactured Fibres – Nylon/Polyamide, 50g, 231 yards / 211 meters)
I used the approximate amounts (all under a skein) of each of the following yarns:
Yarn A: ‘Actinolite’ & ‘Labradorite’, a strand of each, creating a yellow and green double ‘strand’, (196 yards / 179 meters of each shade)
Yarn B: ‘Topaz’ & ‘Benitoite’, a strand of each, creating a turquoise and blue double ‘strand’, (196 yards / 179 meters of each shade)
Needles: 4.5mm / US 7 Circular needle (maximum of 50cm circumference)
Notions: A BOR marker. Tapestry needle to weave ends.

Gauge:
4” (10 cm) on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles (after blocking)
22 stitches & 40 rounds in Garter stitch
22 stitches & 28 rounds in Stockinette stitch
Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements but as this is not a garment, you don’t have to be too precise when it comes to measurements but keep it in mind when planning yarn usage.

Finished measurements:
Circumference: 28” / 71cm Laying Flat: 14” / 35.5cm   Depth: 11” / 28cm
