Stillness Socks were born in the quiet of an early winter morning in our new home. I was sitting on my favourite chair looking out the window and watching my little backyard bird friends enjoying the seeds I set out for them. It was so quiet and peaceful. I picked up my needles, grabbed some yarn, and started to cast on.

I ended up with what I’m calling broken seed stitch. The texture of seed stitch is so much fun and I love it, but I wanted to break it up a little bit and still keep the rhythm of it. The pattern sequence is very meditative and quickly becomes second nature when you pick up your needles.

I have knit three pairs of these socks. The rhythm of the pattern is so relaxing, and has enough contrast with the ribbing to keep it interesting. They have become a favourite of mine not only to knit, but to wear.
I hope that you can find solace and peace while knitting your own Stillness Socks. Especially during times of uncertainty and change.

Notes:
There is no strict gauge for this pattern. I am a tight knitter and feel that my gauge may not be a fair and accurate gauge.
If you have knit socks before, then you know what needles will work for you in order to achieve the size that best suites you.
These socks were knit and written for the use of DPNs. However, you are free to use whatever needle that you are accustomed to.
I prefer to knit in the round on DPNs as much as possible.
